Director, Civic Business Engagement & Texas Lead

Sharon Jones, Director of Civic Business Engagement & Texas Lead, works at the intersection of business and policy building a meaningful network and mobilizing the business community in Houston, across Texas, and nationally. 


Sharon comes to PPS with deep connections to the Texas business community and extensive experience in both the public and private sector.


Sharon directed public policy strategies for ACLU of Texas managing issue campaigns, legislative priorities and training on matters of equity and inclusion. Sharon helped implement the Anthony Graves Smart Justice Speakers Bureau at Texas Southern University during her ACLU tenure.


Sharon is an entrepreneur and ran her own public affairs firm serving as an advisor to multiple municipal and state candidates in Texas. Most recently, Sharon was the inaugural Director of the Texas Racial Equity Collaborative and Chief Equity Officer of Children at Risk, a research and advocacy group. She is also an officer of the board of directors of the Peer Navigation Project, whose mission is to empower formerly incarcerated individuals by providing them with the necessary training and resources to become mentors and advocates within the criminal justice system.


Sharon also volunteers her time including advocacy for voter rights, women’s and girls’ empowerment through historical organizations such as The Links, Incorporated and Delta Sigma Theta, a public service sorority. She also is a certified classroom teacher and dyslexia education specialist with experience teaching in multiple special education programs. 


Sharon attended The University of Texas at Austin and gained valuable experience working at the State Capitol as a legislative aide and legislative director during college and for several years after graduation.
